web mistakes 5 Mistakes to avoid in Website Design

Web design plays an important role to stop users away from your website, I know content is the king but what if you have good content but not a good web designWebsite design varies depending on the subject (niche) of that site. Here are 5 Mistakes to avoid in Website Design.

1) Use of excessive banner advertisements

Let me ask you one thing, what will you do if you suddenly arrive on the webpage which is full of advertisements and affiliate banners? The answer is clear, you will definitely hit back or close button. So now- think about your website… don’t use excessive banners and ads on your site. Ads are good way to earn but visitors don’t like it, so I recommend you to balance between them. Means try to convert visitors to the customer; don’t try to force them to become customer.

2) Website navigation tip

Navigation plays big role to increase the visitor time on your site. If navigation is easy then visitor can browse more pages and stay for more time. Try to avoidnavigations with flash etc. use simple navigation so even small child can understand it.

3) Let user know where they are present

It’s not compulsory that every user is tech savvy so, help them to know that where are they present on your site and how to go on other particular page in one click. If user gets confused means you lose one good reader or customer.

Breadcrum is good plugin if you are using WordPress to show the where user is present.

4) Avoid using audio on your site

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they’re not annoyed by some audio looping on and on your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it — volume or muting controls would work fine.

5) Do not use splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like “Welcome” or “Click here to Enter”. But don’t think about splash pages. Let me ask you one question, what do u do if you go on the site and see splash page instead of beautiful homepage with information? Definitely you will click back button. You can use this if you have a site related to adult content ;) .

Conclusion:

Users always want simple and easy way to find information and resources so always try to make your site user-friendly than ads friendly, think like visitor. This will help you to take some good decisions.

ALso, splash pages are mainly graphic – it diverts the SE from crawling the site effectively.

It’s remarkable that you “Website Design Bloggers” will write an article about what to avoid in Website Design and then show examples on your own site of these mistakes.

Don’t believe me? Read mistake #1 then look all over this shitty website.

    • Hi Bob, thanks for commenting.
I also said that to keep balance in between ads and your content, it doesn’t means that to completely remove all ads. Because we also pay for hosting as well as doing this for earning some bucks, I just put only one ad in content area at the top of the post and all other ads are in sidebar which is not confusing with the main content.

  14. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading your article!

  15. The website isn’t compatible with multiple browsers. Many websites owners are surprised to receive feedback from visitors that informs them their site doesn’t properly function in Google Chrome, which is unfortunate considering Google Chrome is the fastest growing browser online. It’s definitely worth the time to check out Browsershot.org, a free website that tests your website’s compatibility in any and all browsers.

    • Yaa checking browser compatibility is must for every web designer. I also use Browsershot many times, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  18. You have made some really good points here especially in relation to the audio and splash flash pages – personally I try and disuade clients from using them because if some users have a slower modem (and yes that is possible) then they are not going to be able to see the best the site has to offer – they just get annoyed and click away.
