One of the most important aspects of a good blog and what most bloggers strive for is a strong audience. However, for many new bloggers trying to figure out how to capture an audience is a mystery. You could have the most humorous, enjoyable, or knowledgeable blog out there, but the question is how to get people to notice it? You need to market your blog as you would any great and up-and-coming product.

There are several ways to capture an audience and draw people to your blog. It is your job once you have captured their attention to keep it. Several ways to grow your audience are to run blog giveaways, interact with people on forums, comment on other blogs, and join blog hops.
One way to drive traffic to your blog is to run blog giveaways. Learning how to do this is a whole other post. But people love to enter giveaways and they love it even more when their odds of winning are high, which usually happens with blog giveaways. Keeping a steady stream of giveaways on your blog is one way to attract an audience and keep them coming back.
The more bloggers and people you know in which you can discuss your blog, the better chance of getting them interested. Join forums such as Mom Bloggers Club, Bloggy Mom, or one of the many Blog Frog communities. Don’t just join them; you need to comment and interact with people. Try to find people that you think would relate to your blog and open up a line of communication. Be sure to add a link to your blog in your signature so people can find it easily.
Be Active on Other Blogs
One of your top priorities should be commenting on other blogs. If you want people to comment and follow your blog, you are going to have to do the same thing. When you visit other blogs don’t just leave a canned comment. Take the time to read a post and leave a thoughtful comment. Continue to come back and read and leave comments, show other blog owners that you value the time they took in writing a post by giving them the time to leave a comment. The more you put yourself out there and interact in the blogging community, the more chances you have of letting people know about your blog.
Blog hops are a fun way to find interesting blogs and get your blog out there for others to notice. You can usually find a blog hop for any day of the week just by Googling something like “Sunday Blog Hop”. Find a hop or two, or three, and link up your blog. Then you should be considerate of others and hop and follow blogs that peak your interest. Again when leaving a comment, the same rule applies above. If you leave a meaningful comment, people are more likely to reciprocate and leave the same on your own blog. Which means you have met one goal and that is getting people to your blog.
Building and growing a blog audience takes time and determination on your part. Everyone would love to write a few great posts and hope that people will follow. However, like with any great product it all starts with advertising. You need to advertise in the form of letting people get to know you so they in turn will be interested in your blog. The #1 key to a strong audience no matter what steps above you may take is content. You MUST write content that others are interested in reading. Find your niche, what you enjoy writing about, and perfect it. Try to get your readers involved by asking questions in your post, or debating a topic. In the end, you want to make sure that the work you put in bringing people to your blog, also keeps people coming back.
