How to Promote Your Blog

Posted in Blogging By Suraj Vibhute

Currently, millions of people all over the world have found refuge in the blogosphere for a multitude of reasons. Some have seen it as a labor of love to promote or create a forum for a topic that they’re passionate about and others have approached it as more of a business. Not every blog is created equal. Due to various reasons, if you’ve found that you’re not getting as much traffic as you’d like there are many ways in which you can promote your blog and get the kind of traffic that you want.

Blog promote

Platforms:

If you have a very basic platform that isn’t as popular or user friendly as others, it’s important to know that there are several good, and free, blogging platforms currently available online. Platforms like WordPress, Joomla, and Blogger are some of the preferred choices among bloggers since it they were specifically designed toward this aim. Depending on how complex and intricate you want your blog to be, Joomla and Drual are more dynamically functional and provide bloggers with social networking and eCommerce features. There are many other options but theses three gives bloggers a range of modules and plugins for convenience and offers a worldwide support community that assists with a multitude of platform issues.

Promotions:

One of the best ways to get the blogging community’s attention is through the use of promotional items. This could be actual items that users can get through interacting with your blog or you can even take a more social approach. Facebook and other social networking sites have worked to great advantage to increase someone’s online profile. There are also online blogging sites that are a part of a larger community aside from Twitter. Through interacting with social platforms you can increase your exposure to a vast network of users and provide your blog with a jumping off point from which to create a loyal fan base.

Here are few Social sites that you can try:

  • Digg
  • Reddit
  • Twitter
  • Delicious
  • Facebook
  • StumbleUpon

Guest Blogging:

Many bloggers make the big mistake of not being active in the blogging community. It’s not just about what you have to say but also about what everyone else is saying. Consider interacting with other bloggers that are addressing similar topics. You can also have guest bloggers on your site. This approach has many benefits, which can improve your image as a blogger and promote your own content through reaching out to a larger community. This will go a long way toward improving or online visibility, authority, and site traffic.

These are just a few of the approaches one can take towards improving a blog’s reputation and visibility. Most of the steps are through further engagement of a larger social community. If you want to stay visible, then you have to stay active and look for ways to constantly promote yourself and you blog.

It's hard to keep a balance between actively involving in your community and genuinely caring about what the other bloggers have to say and not being too loud and intrusive in other people's business. Let's hope we'll all manage to do that.

Hi!

Social networking sites are good place to promote your blog, no doubt. But I think you should not overdo it, otherwise it might irritate your friends.

Thanks for the excellent article!

I've just started my own blog recently, and I'm currently finding it difficult to strike a balance between promoting often enough on social sites like Facebook so that I get as much exposure as possible, and not promoting so often that I irritate those who are connected with me and drive them away from my blog, instead of to my blog.

But i absolutely agree with what you've said. I hope I get better with experience.

I think twitter is one of the best traffic source you can find, but always the king is content, if the content of your blog isn't good all the traffic you can get will go away fastest.

As far as promotional methods I would also add SEO into the mix, if you have good positions from popular keywords in search engines you would get steady stream of targeted traffic. Right now SEO and social and media is kind of merging together (Google +1 button, Facebook "Like") so it make sense to promote your blog via both mediums at the same time.

I guess reading and commenting on other blogs also helps. This would get you new visitors and it will be like quid pro quo ;).

Nice information.

I've found that Reddit and Twitter are my two main high rollers when it comes to driving traffic to my new blog which is a follow along for beginnners and sometimes intermediate bloggers which shows you exactly how to make money online and how to get TARGETED TRAFFIC to your blog or site.

I would really appreciate it if you would do an article on targeted traffic because as you will know yourself its not amount quantity, its about finding quality targeted traffic which make you the real money.

Just idea.. I don't want you thinking I am insulting your blog because it is very informative and is a great read for all levels of bloggers and you strategies must work if you ranked on the 1st page on my google search!

Thanks for a great read!

It's great that you mention being active in the blogging community. Many bloggers just write their own blog and wait for readers to come to them. If you want people to read and comment on your blog, you have to be willing to do the same for others. You help me, I'll help you. You also get a better idea of what works when operating a blog and what doesn't. You see differnet formats, different topics and can decide if your own blog needs to be updated to match current trends or not. Great post!
